The NHS England Pharmacy Contraception Service aims to provide you with quick, reliable, and discreet access to oral contraception, including emergency contraception, whether you need a repeat supply or it is new for you, without the need to visit your GP.

Are you eligible for the service?

  • You may be eligible for this service if you are looking to start or restart taking an oral contraception, or obtain a further supply of your current oral contraception, or obtain a supply of emergency contraception (the morning after pill) .

And 

  • For a Combined Oral Contractive pill (COC) - you are aged 49 years or under.
  • For a Progesterone Only Pill (POP) - you are aged 54 years or under.   

Please note that eligibility is subject to consultation with the pharmacist.

Select the service at one of our branches, at a time and date that suits you.

Attend your appointment

Our consultation can take up to 30 minutes. You will have a private consultation with your pharmacist to assess your suitability for the service. You will be asked to confirm your blood pressure, weight and height. If not known or unsure, your pharmacist may measure them.

Supply of medication

If you are eligible for the service, your pharmacist can supply you with up to three months of oral contraception if it is new to you, or up to 12 months if it is a repeat supply*.

 

*In some cases, your pharmacist may reduce this period and will explain the reason for this decision.

How much does the service cost?

​​​​​​Nothing! This is an NHS service; therefore, it is free to eligible patients.

Can I use this service to start taking oral contraception?

Yes – your first supply and repeat supplies thereafter can be made following an appointment with the pharmacist. 

I have an implant as my current contraception, can I get repeats through this service?

You can only obtain oral contraception via this service, as well as emergency contraception. For all other forms of contraception, you will need to see your GP, sexual health clinic or equivalent.
