Who should get vaccinated against COVID-19?
The COVID-19 vaccine is suitable for most people over six months of age, and the NHS will provide it free of charge if you:
- Are aged 75 or older
- Are aged six months to 74 years and have a weakened immune system from underlying health conditions or treatments (e.g. chemotherapy)
- Live in a care home for older adults
However, for those who do not fit into these cohorts the private service is available.
The vaccination provides stronger protection against severe illness.
What is Covid-19?
COVID-19 is a coronavirus virus that infects the lungs and airways. It spreads through droplets when people cough, sneeze, or talk. While some experience mild cold-like symptoms, others can become seriously ill. Vaccination reduces the risk of severe illness and helps protect those around you.
