Cold Sores

Cold sores are a viral infection found on the lips and face and are easily passed on.

• Earlier treatment reduces the severity and duration of the cold sore. Ideally, you should treat at the "tingle" stage but if you miss this, just treat as soon as possible.
• If you get regular cold sores, keep Zovirax to hand so that you can treat the blister or tingle straight away.
• Avoid contact with other parts of the body as the virus can spread easily and quickly.
• Do not have close physical contact with others.
• Wash your hands regularly during an attack to avoid spreading the virus.
• Use a separate towel for the cold sore area.
• Wear a good sunscreen because strong sun can trigger cold sores.
• If there is no improvement after 10 days, ask our pharmacist for advice.
